The Luxembourg Presidency

Word of Welcome by Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker

Jean-Claude JunckerLadies and Gentlemen,

I would like to welcome you to the website of the Luxembourg Presidency of the Council of the European Union which will be held from 1 January to 30 June 2005.

The site is designed to keep you up to date with the latest Luxembourg Presidency news by means of an online Calendar and the ‘News’ section.

The website offers basic information about the predominant dossiers of our Presidency, particularly the negotiations on the European Union financial framework for the 2007 to 2013 period, the mid-term review of the Lisbon process, the adaptation of the stability and growth pact as well as in the field of enlargement, the signature of the accession treaties with Bulgaria and Romania, the opening of negotiations with Croatia and the preparations for accession negotiations with Turkey.

In addition, the site will provide interesting information on the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg such as its history, its political institutions, its economy and its cultural life.

A specific section dedicated to the main European Union dossiers is also available on this website. Direct links to European Union institutions sites provide additional information to the public, quenching the increasing 21st century thirst for online knowledge about European institutions and policies.

The site will offer media professionals a quick and efficient means of communicating with the Luxembourg Presidency, providing them with access to information and accreditation possibility for events held in Luxembourg.

By means of this website, I hope that you will be able to witness the efforts and successes of the Luxembourg Presidency in the interest of European integration.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I invite you to enjoy, with us, the first semester of 2005.

Jean-Claude Juncker
Prime Minister
