The Accession Treaty of Bulgaria and Romania to the European Union will be signed on 25 April 2005 in Luxembourg city.

The signing ceremony will take place at the Neumünster Abbey, in the presence of all the Heads of State of the accessing countries – the President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Georgi Parvanov, and the President of the Republic of Romania, Traian Basecu – as well as the 25 signatory countries of the Treaty, the State members of the European Union.

The European Parliament, the European Commission and the European Union Council will be represented by their respective presidents Josep Borrel Fontelles, José Manuel Barroso and Jean-Claude Juncker respectively.

TRH the Grand Duke and the Grand Duchess will also attend the ceremony.

After the opening speech by the President of the European Council, Jean-Claude Juncker, the President of the European Parliament, Josep Borrel Fontelles, and the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, the representatives of the 27 countries will sign the Accession Treaty of Bulgaria and Romania to the European Union.

Thereafter, speeches by the Prime Minister Simeon Saxe-Coburg, and the Romanian President, Traian Basecu, will be held.

The signing ceremony will be opened and closed by an interpretation of the European hymn by the ensemble Le mystère des voix bulgares.

After the cocktail offered by Bulgaria, Romania and the Luxembourg Presidency in the cloister of the abbey, TRH the Grand Duke and the Grand Duchess will host a dinner for all signatory plenipotentiaries.

In the context of the signing ceremony of the Accession Treaty of Bulgaria and Romania to the European Union, the Prime Minister welcomes the President of the Republic of Bulgariy, Georgi Parvanov, and the Prime Minister of Romania, Calin Popescu-Tariceanu, for an exchange of vues at the Hôtel de Bourgogne.
