On 9 May 2005, on the eve of the EU-Russia summit in Moscow, Jean Asselborn, Minister for Foreign Affairs and current President of the Council of the European Union, will take part in meeting of the diplomatic Quartet for the Middle East, alongside Javier Solana and Benita Ferrero-Waldner.
The Quartet, which brings together the representatives of the European Union, the Secretary General of the United Nations Koffi Annan, the United States Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Russian Foreign Minister Sergej Lavrov, is expected to discuss the support that the international community can offer in the context of the Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, as well as relaunching the Road Map for a permanent solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
