During a press conference at the close of the informal meeting of the EU Sport ministers, held in Luxembourg on 28-29 April 2005, Jeannot Krecké, Luxembourg’s Minister for Sport, expressed his satisfaction that the Treaty Establishing a Constitution for Europe made allowances - through article III-282 - for a formal position on sport in the European Union institutions. "The Luxembourg Presidency is very pleased that sport will at last have its rightful place among all the other fields, as soon as the Constitutional Treaty enters into force," stated Jeannot Krecké. "When it comes to sport at Community level, we will no longer need to resort to subterfuges. Sport will at last have the legitimacy and recognition that we have sought for a long time. This constitutes a real added value. "It is in the true interests of the sporting world that the Constitutional Treaty becomes reality."
