The Presidency remains committed to respecting the deadline of 1 April for the entry into force of the new GSP regime

Regarding the Generalised System of Preferences (GSP), Jean Asselborn, the current President of the Council of the European Union, stated after the General Affairs and External Relations Council on 16 March:

"As regards the Generalised System of Preferences, the Council was unable to approve the new GSP and GSP+ regime. The Presidency remains committed to respecting the deadline of 1 April for the entry into force of the new GSP regime. Working with the Commission, we will attempt to find solutions to the last open questions, in particular El Salvador (in the SPG+ regime) and the graduation mechanism for textiles."
