Six months after the tsunami: stocktaking by the European Union and the United Nations

On Friday 24 June 2005, i.e. 6 months after the tsunami disaster in the Indian Ocean, the European Union and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA)  will proceed to a stocktaking on the international assistance rendered to the region affected by the tsunami. The meeting will also be centred on the follow-up of the actions undertaken by the European Union, the lessons to be learnt after the disaster and the appraisal of the accountability of the financial aid.

The meeting, held in the Château de Senningen near Luxembourg-city, will be chaired by Jean-Louis Schiltz, the Luxembourg Minister for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs.

Media representatives are kindly invited to a press conference that will be given at 11.45 a.m. in the Château by Mr Jean-Louis Schiltz, Jan Egeland, Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, and Louis Michel, European Commissioner in charge of Development and Humanitarian Aid. 

Please note that a specific accreditation is necessary for this meeting!

2) Accreditation

The media representatives who wish to attend the meeting are kindly asked to register by sending an e-mail to the address accreditation@eu2005.lu before 20 June 2005. The e-mail has to contain the following information:

- First name and last name
- Birth date
- Name of the media organization
- Press card number and institution from which it has been issued (a scanned letter from the editor-in-chief for those who do not possess a presscard)
- Function (journalist, cameraman, photographer,…)

3) Handing out of the badges

The badges will be handed out on Friday 24 June 2005 at the press centre of the Kiem Conference Centre. The official bus will also leave from the Kiem Conference Centre. When arriving at the press centre, journalists will be given badges at the accreditation desk next to the media entrance. These badges will allow them to acceed to the Château de Senningen and to use the facilities of the press centre on 24 June 2005 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Only the media representatives who have registered by e-mail will have access to the Château de Senningen !

4) Official transport

The Luxembourg Presidency organizes an official transport to the Château de Senningen. The official bus will leave at 11 a.m. at the Kiem Conference Centre. The meeting point for the accredited media is at the media entrance of the CCKiem at  10.50 a.m.
The bus will leave Senningen immediately after the press conference.
Please note that the media representatives have only access to the Château de Senningen if they travel on the official bus organized by the Luxembourg Presidency of the Council of the European Union. No individual access will be possible.

5) Photo service

The Presidency provides photo coverage. Photos can be downloaded on the website of the Luxembourg Presidency.

6) The press centre of the Kiem Conference Centre

On 24 June 2005, the press centre will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The big working room of the Kiem Conference Centre will be available. It offers 400 working spaces with free Internet access, PCs, printers, telephones (with connection to analogical and digital modem) and photocopiers. Wireless lan is another service provided by the Luxembourg Presidency.
The Presidency is pleased to offer lunch to the accredited media representatives in the CCKiem. Refreshments are served continuously in the media bar of the press centre.

7) Parking

The media representatives are asked to use the car park under the shopping centre (Auchan), situated very close to the Kiem Conference Centre. Parking spaces for the press are reserved at level -3. The car park is accessible via the Avenue J.F. Kennedy. When you enter the parking, please take an entrance ticket at the barrier and keep it. It can be exchanged for a validated ticket at the « info-média » desk of the CCKiem, so that parking will be free of charge for the media.
