Declaration by the Presidency of the European Union on the formation of the transitional Iraqi government

The Presidency of the European Union welcomes the formation of the new transitional Iraqi government. It believes that the foundations of the new Iraq will have to continue to be built on the basis of dialogue as well as in a spirit of national reconciliation.

It conveys to the newly formed government, following the elections of 30 January 2005, its best wishes of success. The European Union reaffirms its engagement to continue supporting the Iraqi people and underscores its attachment to the implementation of the next stages, as foreseen by Resolution 1546 of the United Nations Security Council.
