Jean-Claude Juncker, Prime Minister and Minister of Finance will attend the G7 meeting of Finance ministers in London on 10-11 June 2005 in his quality as President of the Eurogroup and the Economic and Financial Affairs Council.
The meeting will serve as preparation for the G8 summit to be held in Gleneagles, Scotland at the beginning of June, which will deal primarily with a new initiative for international development aid. Jean-Claude Juncker and European Commissioner Joaquìn Almunia will represent the European Union at this meeting.
The EU itself has recently put forward an initiative for the collection of new funds for international development aid through a modest contribution on air fares. The practical details regarding implementation of this contribution are currently being discussed among European Finance ministers.
