The twenty-five Finance Ministers and Central Banks of the European Union have unanimously re-elected the chairman of the Economic and Financial Committee, Caio Koch-Weser, German Secretary of State for Finance, for a second two-year term. As new Vice-President of the Committee, they elected Kees van Dijkhuizen, Treasurer General of the Dutch Ministry of Finance.

The EFC, one of the most influential EU committees, prepares the meetings of the Council of Economic and Finance Ministers (Ecofin) and the Eurogroup. Through its Eurogroup working group, the EFC plays an increasingly prominent role in preparing meetings of the euro area Finance Ministers and in the decision-process leading to the accession of new member states to the European Exchange Rate Mechanism (ERM II). As chairman of these committees, Mr. Koch-Weser serves also as G7 deputy to the Eurogroup President. The current Eurogroup President, Jean-Claude Juncker, welcomes the re-election of Caio Koch-Weser.
