The General Affairs and External Relations Council will meet in Brussels on 16-17 March. Jean Asselborn, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Immigration and President in office of the Council will chair the meeting.
In the morning, European ministers for Foreign Affairs will discuss General Affairs items. They will prepare the European Council of 22-23 April, consult on the question of opening accession negotiations with Croatia and discuss the financial framework of the European Union for the period 2007-2013.
The External relations session will focus on the situation in the Middle East, the preparation of the Human Rights commission at the United Nations, the generalized system of preferences for trade with the developing countries, relations with Russia and the European neighborhood policy.
Four party talks will be held with the Council of Europe in the sidelines of the meeting.
