On Friday evening, 11 March 2005, the Prime Minister and current President of the European Council, Jean-Claude Juncker, met in Rome with his Italian counterpart, Silvio Berlusconi, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Gianfranco Fini, and the Minister for the Economy and Finance, Domenico Siniscalco.
On the agenda of this meeting were the preparations for the European Council of 22 and 23 March, especially the Stability and Growth Pact, and the relaunch of the Lisbon process. The financial perspectives were also addressed.
After the meeting, Jean-Claude Juncker stated that “the views of the Luxembourg Presidency and Italy largely converge�? on the subjects discussed, especially on the proposals of the Presidency regarding the reform of the Stability Pact.
