Press Release
Jean Asselborn at the London meeting to support the Palestinian Authority

Date of release : 28-02-2005

Policy area : General Affairs and External Relations

On 1 March 2005, Jean Asselborn, Minister for Foreign Affairs and current President of the Council of the European Union, will attend the London meeting, an opportunity for the Palestinian Authority to set out their plans to build up the institutions they will need to underpin a future Palestinian state.

On the EU side, the High Representative for the CFSP, Javier Solana, and Benita Ferrero-Waldner, Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy, will also take part in the meeting.

The meeting will examine the proposals on state-building and capacity-building in the areas of governance, security and economic development, and discuss the way to organise the international support for the Palestinian Authority's strategy.

On the sidelines of the London conference, Jean Asselborn will also take part in a meeting of the Middle East Quartet (European Union, the United Nations, the United States and Russia).
