In the framework of the Luxembourg Presidency of the European Union, the Minister for Defence and Justice, Luc Frieden, will undertake an official visit to Georgia on Wednesday, 16 February 2005. He will hold meetings with the President of the Republic, Mikhail Saakashvili, as well as with the Georgian Ministers for Foreign Affairs, Justice and Defence.
In his capacity as current President of the Council of the European Union, Minister Frieden will meet EUJUST-THEMIS officials in Tbilisi. This mission, led by a French magistrade, is the first Rule of Law mission launched in the context of the European Security and Defence Policy.
The Minister for Defence, accompanied by the Director General of NATO Maintenance and Supply Organization (NAMSA), General Münzner, will also visit a NATO project whose goal is the demilitarisation of missiles in Georgia. This project, for which Luxembourg plays the role of pilot State within NATO, is carried out by NAMSA, the NATO agency established in Luxembourg.
