Presidency calls on Cuba to thaw relations with all EU embassies

Date of release : 06-01-2005

Policy area : General Affairs and External Relations

Cuba has informed the Luxembourg Presidency of the Council of the European Union of its decision at the beginning of the week to normalise relations with a further eight European embassies in Havana, following statements to this effect from the Cuban Minister for Foreign Affairs on 3 January 2005.

The Presidency responded that a resumption of relations with all embassies and the Representation of the European Commission was indispensable within the framework of a normalisation of relations between the European Union and Cuba. The Presidency also issued an appeal for the liberation of all remaining political prisoners.
