Jeannot Krecké was born on 26 April 1950 in Luxembourg City. He is married.

After studying at the Université libre de Bruxelles, Jeannot Krecké became a physical education teacher.

From 1981 to 1987, he was town councillor for Kopstal. After settling in Luxembourg, he became involved in the local politics of the capital. He became town councillor in 1989, was president of the Socialist Group of the Luxembourg town council and president of the "sections réunies" of Luxembourg City from 1993 to 1996.

He was a member of the management committee of the LSAP (Luxembourg Socialist Workers’ Party) from 1985 to 1997 and responsible for managing party funds from 1985 to 1994. He was elected Deputy in 1989, re-elected in 1994, and was treasurer of the Parliamentary Group, then vice-president from 1994 and president from 1997. He was re-elected in 1999 and continued in the post of president of the Parliamentary Group. In the municipal elections held in October 1999, he was chief LSAP candidate for the capital.

During his career, Jeannot Krecké has been involved in economic and financial issues. He was president of the Economic Affairs Committee and then vice-president of the Finance and Budget Committee and also held the presidency of the Committee for Controlling Budget Implementation.

Apart from this, he was co-author of a manual on personal taxation and was given responsibility for the report on the Government budget for the year 1996, plus a report on tax fraud in Luxembourg in 1997. He was also co-author of a book on the control exercised by the Chamber of Deputies.

On the social front, he founded, along with others, the Luxembourg Alzheimer’s Association in 1987 and fulfilled the role of president up until 1997. He subsequently became president of the Alzheimer’s Foundation.

After playing international football, Jeannot Krecké became a keen sailor and was thus a member of the crew that won the transatlantic Constitution Race in 1987. In 1989 and 1992, he organised polar expeditions in the Greenland Sea and around Spitzberg.

Following the national elections held on 13 June 2004, Jeannot Krecké was appointed Minister of the Economy and Foreign Trade and Minister of Sport on 31 July 2004.
