On 23 June 2005, Jean Asselborn, Minister for Foreign Affairs and current President of the Council of the European Union, will take part in a meeting of the diplomatic Quartet for the Middle East in London, alongside Javier Solana and Benita Ferrero-Waldner.
The Quartet, which brings together representatives of the European Union, the Secretary General of the United Nations Koffi Annan, the United States Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Russian Foreign Minister Sergej Lavrov, is expected to discuss the impending Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and parts of the West Bank, in the framework of the implementation of the Road Map for a permanent solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
