General Affairs and External Relations Council to meet in Luxembourg on 25-26 April 2005

The General Affairs and External Relations Council will meet in Luxembourg on 25 and 26 April 2005. Jean Asselborn, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Immigration of Luxembourg and current President of the Council of the European Union, will chair the meeting.

In the morning, Foreign Ministers will discuss General Affairs’ items. The Council will examine the last version of the "Negotiating Box" prepared by the Presidency for the Financial perspectives for the period 2007-2013.

The Council session on the External Relations will focus on the follow-up of the EU Action plan for the countries affected by the tsunami in the Indian Ocean, on preparations for the next EU-Russia summit to be held in Moscow on 10 May 2005, and on the Great Lakes region in Africa.

Over lunch, the Ministers are expected to discuss the situation in the Western Balkans and in the Middle East (Iraq, Lebanon, Middle East peace process).

On 26 April, Jean Asselborn will chair meetings of the EU-Turkey Association Council and the EU-Croatia Association and Stabilisation Council.
