Jean-Claude Juncker will preside over the leaders meeting between the United States of America and the European Union

The Prime Minister and current President of the European Council, Jean-Claude Juncker, will preside over the Summit Meeting between the Heads of State and Government of the European Union Member States with the President of the United States of America, George W. Bush, which will take place on Tuesday 22 February 2005 in Brussels.

This is the first visit of an American President to the Council of the European Union.

The agenda comprises, discussion over Trans-Atlantic relations, economic relations as well as matters of current international interest.

At the end of the meeting, Jean-Claude Juncker, the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso as well as the Secretary General of the Council and High Representative, Javier Solana will hold a joint Press conference, together with President Bush. 

In parallel, Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration and President of the Council of the European Union Jean Asselborn, will preside over the meeting of the Ministers for Foreign Affairs of the European Union Members States with the United States Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.  

On the morning of 22 February 2005, Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker, Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration and President of the Council of the European Union, Jean Asselborn and Minister of Defence Luc Frieden, will participate in the NATO Summit, which will take place at NATO headquarters in Brussels.

Ar the margins of these two meetings, Jean-Claude Juncker will also hold a discussion with the President of Ukraine, Viktor Yushchenko.
