The Presidency of the European Union is closely watching the situation in Kyrgyzstan in the aftermath of the elections and in particular the recent events in Jalal-Abad and in Osh.
The Presidency of the European Union launches an appeal to all parties concerned to demonstrate in a non-violent way and invites them to participate in a constructive manner by means of an open dialogue and through cooperation in settling their disagreements.
The Presidency of the European Union underlines the importance of fully respecting human rights and fundamental liberties. The Presidency of the European Union calls on the Kyrgyz authorities to respond peacefully to the actions of the opposition and on opposition forces to renounce to all illegal actions. The Presidency of the European Union underlines the importance it attaches to the fact that Kyrgyzstan regains political, economic and social stability necessary for its development.
The Presidency of the European Union strongly encourages the Kyrgyz Government to pursue democratic reforms and recalls the concerns expressed by the European Union in its declaration of 4 March 2005. The Presidency of the European Union reiterates its disposition to collaborate with Kyrgyzstan for the promotion and the implementation of the values and principles of the OSCE on the basis of mutual trust.
