CFSP Statement
Declaration of the EU Presidency on the agreement on the establishment of a bus link between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad

Date of release : 18-02-2005

Policy area : General Affairs and External Relations

The Presidency of the European Union welcomes the 16th February agreement reached between India and Pakistan on the establishment of a bus link across the line of control between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad. It congratulates both countries on this achievement.

The EU Presidency considers this decision as an important step away from confrontation towards conciliation. Cooperation between both countries is today an imperative their people strongly desire. Instead of a conflict region, Kashmir might become a peace bridge between both countries and their people.

The Presidency encourages India and Pakistan to continue to make steady progress on the remaining issues and looks forward to the opening of additional means of communication, including for trade.
